Halswell Vikings Match Report 5th/12th October 2024

Halswell Vikings win against East Shirley

First game of the season and after a delayed start due to some damp areas around the ground, the Vikings won the toss, elected to bowl, and dismissed East Shriley for 74. In reply the Halswell Vikings amassed a competitive 8-d/150 leaving just 16 overs remaining in the first day’s play. A spirited spell from Lachie Messervey late in the afternoon helped dent East Shirley’s batting resolve to 4/20 at the close.

With Halswell requiring 6 wickets to secure the victory outright, the match was completed by lunch with wickets shared amongst all the bowlers all whilst Halswell Domain looking almost postcard perfect, bathed in sunshine on a glorious Spring morning. East Shirley by avoiding an innings defeat, and denying the Vikings a bonus point, tasked Halswell to chase down 4 runs for victory, however not without controversy. All in all, a great start to the Vikings season and a game played in good spirits by all.
