Lankan Lions Clinch Victory Over Warriors in EV Power Knockout

The Halswell Lankan Lions showcased their prowess with a commanding victory over the Everest Warriors in the opening match of the EV Power Knockout. Batting first after winning the toss, the Warriors struggled to find their footing against a disciplined Lions attack.

Amila and Kalana struck early, claiming two quick wickets and putting the Warriors on the back foot. Sunanda’s entry broke a key partnership, leaving the Warriors at 62/3 in the 17th over. From there it was all downhill for the visitors with Sudaraka and Rumesh claiming key wickets to bowl the Warriors out for just 97 in 34 overs. Rumesh was exceptional with the ball, claiming 3/8, while Sudaraka supported him superbly with 3/24.

Chasing 98 for victory, the Lions encountered early setbacks, losing two quick wickets for just 7 runs. However, a crucial 53-run partnership between Rumesh and Sunanda shifted the momentum back in favour of the Lions. Rumesh once again finished with a gritty 35, supported by Sunanda’s 25, as the Lions crossed the line comfortably with 6 wickets in hand, with Jerome remaining not out on 21.

This victory propels the Lankan Lions into the top eight of the knockout competition, setting up an exciting next round.
