Lankan Lions Match Report 15/11/2024

Lankan Lions won by 4 wickets against Everest Warriors.

Lions Extend Winning Streak with a Steady Chase.

In overcast and rain-impacted conditions at Halswell Domain, the Lankan Lions maintained their flawless record, securing a 4-wicket win over the Warriors last Friday.

Captain Akila won the toss and, wisely, opted to bowl first on a pitch that was a little on the damp side. Shameera wasted no time, taking two quick wickets to put the Warriors in trouble early, leaving them at a shaky 13/2. While the Warriors managed a solid middle-order partnership, they couldn’t get the scoreboard ticking, reaching just 51/2 after 20 overs. The Lions’ bowlers then turned the screw, picking up wickets at regular intervals, as the Warriors crumbled from 87/4 to all-out for 105.

Sanjeewa was the standout performer with the ball, delivering an outstanding spell of 3/10 from 8 overs, while Shameera (3/17) and Sunanda (2/13) kept up the pressure with disciplined, attacking lines.

The chase, however, didn’t get off to the best of starts. the Warriors’ captain Harishab made early inroads, bowling a testing spell in favourable conditions to send both openers back to the hut, leaving the Lions struggling at 14/2. Chathura and Sunanda briefly stabilised the chase, but the pressure mounted as a couple more wickets fell, and the Lions found themselves at 51/4, with rain once again threatening to intervene.

With the target now looking more challenging, Sunanda showed his class. Calm and composed, he played a patient knock to anchor the chase. Supported by Jerome (17) and a steady 9* from Shameera, Sunanda guided the Lions over the line in the 27th over, securing the win with four wickets in hand and still plenty of overs to spare.

With five wins from five, the undefeated Lions have made a strong start to the season and are well on track for a promising campaign. 🦁💪
