Girls Cricket at Halswell

We welcome any new female players thinking of giving cricket a go. We have girls only teams from School Year 3 onwards and are huge supporters of Canterbury Cricket in wanting to expand the Girls competition. Girls in School Years 1-2 are welcome to play in our softball grades which are mixed teams. We also have all-girl teams in Year 3 and 4 and these teams can play in the new Mini Mags all-girls competition. Year 5 upwards also play in an all-girls competition.

From Year 9 onwards we can enter teams into the Girls Youth competition – Div 2 is for Year 9-10s.

Check out our junior grade teams below:

1. Mini Mags

  • Eligibility: School Years 3 and 4
  • Teams: 8-a-side
  • Equipment: Wooden bats and a plastic Incredi-ball
  • Innings: 16 overs per team
  • Pitch length: 14 metres
  • Game Days: Mainly Saturday at 9.00am (with the occasional game on other days)
  • Game Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
  • Training: One training session during the week.

1. Super 8 (Primary) (Div 4)

  • Eligibility: School Years 5 and 6
  • Teams: 8-a-side
  • Ball: Junior match Incredi-ball
  • Gear: Pads, gloves, helmets
  • Innings: 20 overs per team
  • Pitch length: 16 metres
  • Game Days: Saturday at 9.00am
  • Game Duration: 2 to 2.5 hours

2. Girls Intermediate (Div 3)

  • Eligibility: School Years 7 and 8
  • Teams: 9-a-side
  • Equipment: 142g leather ball or match Incredi-ball, pads, gloves, helmets
  • Innings: 20 overs per team
  • Pitch length: 18 metres, mainly artificials
  • Game Days: Saturday at 9.00am
  • Game Duration: around 2.5 hours

2. Div 2

  • Eligibility: School Years 9 & 10 (and in some case strong year 8s)
  • Teams: 9-a-side
  • Equipment: 142g leather ball, pads, gloves, helmets
  • Innings: 25 overs per team
  • Pitch length: 18 metres, grass blocks
  • Game Days: Saturday at 9.00am
  • Game Duration: 2.5 – 3 hours
