Smash Play junior-tamariki
Smash Play is New Zealand cricket’s programme for juniors, introduced for the 2022/23 season. It is focused on providing quality experiences for all young cricketers. With a focus on game play, and values, the aim is for cricket to provide enjoyment, alongside the social and personal development playing sport with friends brings.
We know children learn through game play. They develop skills, develop a love for an active and healthy lifestyle and enjoy being with friends and whānau. With Smash Play junior-tamariki, every session has more hits, more touches, more catches, more action. More fun.

Our programme
At Halswell Cricket Club we offer a programme for 4-7 year olds (up to Year 2) that teaches kids an introduction to the 3 basic facets of cricket being bowling, batting and fielding, whilst having some fun in the process! Our programme is run by Shaun Aitken from Big Hitters, and it will incorporate elements of the Smash Play programme. Shaun is a very experienced cricket coach who has completed New Zealand Crickets Development Coach Programme. Smash Play replaces the previous Superstar Academy programme.
Eligibility: Age 4 – 7 years (School Year 2)
Dates: Wednesday during school terms. Start date 25th October 2023 (TBC).
Duration: 45 minutes
Times: two options – 4pm or 5pm
