Junior Cricket Soft Ball Grade Options
Looking for a summer sport for the kids? We have options and teams for boys and girls of all abilities from age 4 to 9 years of age (up to school Year 4). New players are always welcome. Check out our grade teams below.
1. Smash Play (Have-a-Go Cricket)
This programme teaches kids an introduction to the 3 basic facets of cricket being bowling, batting and fielding, whilst having some fun in the process!
- Eligibility: Age 4 – 7 years (up to School Year 2)
- Dates: Wednesday’s during school terms. Start date 22nd October 2025.
- Duration: 45 minutes, 6 sessions per term
- Times: two options – 4pm or 5pm
- Location: Halswell Domain
2. Soft Ball Cricket Grades
These are all team-based grades that play on a Saturday morning, with a training during the week. The aims of our soft ball cricket grades are as follows:
- Guaranteed Participation – all players will bat, bowl, field and wicket keep in every match.
- Fun – with an emphasis on cricket skills development
- Maximum involvement – games are fast paced and action packed
- Positive attitudes and behaviour
2.1 Kiwi Cricket
- Eligibility: School Years 1 and 2
- Teams: 6-a-side
- Equipment: Plastic bats and a soft plastic ball
- Innings: 12 overs per team
- Pitch length: 12 metres
- Game Days: Mainly Saturday at 9.30am (with the occasional game on other days)
- Game Duration: 1 to 1.5 hours
- Training: One training session during the week (set by the coach for each team so days and times vary)
2.2 School Year 3 Cricket
- Teams: 8-a-side
- Equipment: Wooden bats and a plastic Incredi-ball
- Innings: 16 overs per team
- Pitch length: 14 metres
- Game Days: Mainly Saturday at 9.00am (with the occasional game on other days)
- Game Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Training: One training session during the week (set by the coach for each team so days and times vary)
2.3 School Year 4 Cricket
- Teams: 8-a-side
- Equipment: Wooden bats and a plastic Incredi-ball
- Innings: 16 overs per team
- Pitch length: 14 metres
- Game Days: Mainly Saturday at 9.00am (with the occasional game on other days)
- Game Duration: 1.5 to 2 hours
- Training: One training session during the week (set by the coach for each team so days and times vary)
